•     We all have fond memories of the TV shows and commercials that we watched when we were small children. However, we need to think seriously about whether it is fair for advertisers to target such young children.
  •     Faced with criticism, many say that it is up to parents to limit television viewing time, and to explain commercial messages to children. They also say that there is no danger to children because it is parents who decide what the family will buy.
  •     On the other hand, research has shown that children do not understand that commercials are made with the purpose of selling the product until they are 11 years old. Therefore, they believe the messages more than adults do. Children their own age are shown in the commercials enjoying the products. This creates a strong desire. Further, many commercials for children advertise sweet snacks or drinks. This has been found to lead to bad eating habits that last throughout their lives.
  •     We need more discussion in our society about whether advertisers should be allowed to target us during this vulnerable time in our lives.
